The UMass Dartmouth Labor Extension Program and the Massachusetts Coalition for Occupational Safety and Health presents this four-week series to be held at UMass Dartmouth on Wednesdays from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on April 9, 16, 23, and 30

 

This series is dedicated to the men and women who have been killed, injured or made ill by work in Massachusetts. We will plan a Worker Memorial Day event on the last night of the class.

 

Come to sharpen your health and safety skills to build an effective union approach to health and safety!

 

Session One:

·        Health and Safety Activist Panel presentation: Successes and Challenges

·        Worker Memorial Day – how we monitor worker injuries and fatalities, OSHA compliance and high hazard trends to fight for safe jobs

Session Two:

·        Union approach to health and safety

·        What’s in this air? Introduction to environmental indoor air quality- the issues and what can be done about it.

Session Three:

·        Adding internet research to your Health and Safety Tool Box: using the web for research and organizing

·        This will be a hands on session

Session Four:

·         Creating a health and safety plan for your union/workplace, tailored to the conditions in your workplace and presentation of the plan for feedback

·        Worker Memorial Event

 

Faculty for the series will feature Tolle Graham and Robert Burns of MassCOSH and Kim Wilson of UMass Dartmouth Labor Extension.  Guest activist presenters include Ted Comick of the union at General Electric, IUE Local 201 and Elise Pechter Industrial Hygienist, Mass Dept. of Public Health Occupational Health Surveillance.  We will also be joined by member leaders from AFSCME Local 507 and United Steelworkers Local 1357.  Open and fill out the attachment below to sign up!
