Press Conference to end wage theft and safety violations
plaguing immigrant workers

Thursday, April 30, 2009

12:00 noon

next to the Chinatown Gate

(Beach and Edinboro Streets)

Immigrant Workers Center Collaborative, a coalition of immigrant worker centers in the greater Boston area including MassCOSH, will hold a brief press conference on the plaza next to the Chinatown Gate to highlight the problems of wage theft and safety violations plaguing immigrant workers – and to call for workers rights to be upheld even during the economic recession.

Speakers will include bus drivers from Sunshine Travel, which operates out of Boston Chinatown and Quincy, with buses to Mohegan Sun Casino and cities throughout the northeast.  The drivers allege wage-and-hour problems, violation of transportation safety standards, and other unfair business practices, and will be handing out flyers about their struggle prior to the press conference.

The Immigrant Workers Center Collaborative (IWCC) is a network of immigrant workers centers in the greater Boston area, that includes Centro Presente, the Chinese Progressive Association, the Chelsea Collaborative, and the Massachusetts Coalition for Occupational Safety and Health.  The IWCC seeks to build a stronger movement for immigrant workers rights by strengthening collaboration across ethnic communities.
