DOL Alleges Employer Retaliated Against Worker By Triggering ICE Arrest

Jose Martin Paz Flores, an immigrant worker hired to do dangerous construction work was hurt on the job two years ago. He was arrested by ICE after filing a worker's compensation claim two years ago and was unlawfully retaliated against by his Boston-based employer, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) said in a complaint filed Wednesday in Boston's federal court. DOL further asserted a Boston police sergeant was involved in the employee's arrest by ICE.

MassCOSH could not be more proud of our officials fighting for justice for all workers, including DOL’s staff and leadership. We would also be remiss if we failed to thank one of our newest board members Michael Felsen, who served as the DOL’s Regional Solicitor when this case began to be developed. We will benefit greatly from his experience, knowledge, and decades-long commitment to workers’ rights.
