New Training and Resources for Workers on Opioids

Health Resources in Action (HRA), in collaboration with MA. Department of Public Health is offering a virtual, two-hour interactive training based on MassCOSH’s research on the role that workplace pain and injury can play in causing opioid use disorder and overdose. Titled Preventing Injury, Pain & Opioid Use in the Workplace, the training will be offered repeatedly in May and seeks to engage workers in high-risk industries in conversations about workplace hazards and the connections between injury, pain, and opioid use.

Participants will learn about how they can support colleagues through pain, injury, and addiction as well as the laws and protections available to support a safe and healthy workplace. For the first several offerings of the training, HRA will be seeking feedback from employees and providing monetary compensation for their time.

The training will be offered the following dates:

MassCOSH is also proud to share new resources being offered by RIZE Massachusetts and the Massachusetts Attorney General Office to help people understand their rights when navigating recovery from opioid use disorder. This new tool kit includes a section specifically on employment that outlines workers' rights and protections while in recovery. The tool kit is available in English and Spanish: https://www.rizema.org/yourrights/
