TL@W Celebrates 20 Years of Advocacy

The Teens Lead at Work (TL@W) summer program is back and in-person for the first time in well over a year and is celebrating its 20th anniversary of fighting for young workers’ rights! On July, 7 TL@W started its six-week summer programming with more than 20 young people including several team leaders who had worked with TL@W throughout the school year and are now stepping into leadership roles.

Through August, teens will learn to advocate for their right to safety, health, and justice at school, work, and in the community. TL@W Peer Leaders are also working on projects related to climate justice, sexual harassment, the gig economy, and racial justice. Peer Leaders spent the first weeks of the program delving into research on these topics and are using that knowledge to create campaigns and projects to help win real improvements in young people’s lives. We are incredibly grateful to the City of Boston Successlink Program and the John Hancock MLK Scholars Program for providing the resources so that these teens can earn an hourly wage while doing this critical work.
 
The program had a successful in-person, socially distanced orientation on July 1 and has had a great first few weeks led by our Youth Programs Director Joe Tache. This is Joe’s first summer with TL@W and he has done an outstanding job engaging with Peer Leaders while balancing online and in-person programming. Soon these peer leaders will fan out over greater Boston on-screen and in-person to provide critical training to their peers about hard-earned rights on the job. For more information on TL@W, including the trainings offered, please check TL@W’s page on our website or email Youth Programs Director, Joe Tache at joe.tache@masscosh.org
