Pietra Check serves as MassCOSH's Worker Center Regional Deputy Director, supporting organizing, training, and outreach with immigrant workers across the region.
She began community health work in Culebra, Puerto Rico, and earned a Master of Public Health in Population and Family Health from Columbia University's Mailman School in 2003. For more than a decade she worked with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on health communications and interventions that promote health equity for Spanish-speaking immigrant workers nationwide.
Pietra is a DrPH candidate in the Department of Public Health and Community Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine. Her dissertation explores structural vulnerability and intersecting identities in the lived experiences of recently immigrated Central American low-wage working women in Springfield, Massachusetts.
